The government is considering reopening the educational institutes soon as the coronavirus has finally started to show a downward trend for the first time in the span of 4 months.

Shafqat Mahmood, the federal education minister indicated this on Monday and said that if the plan works through, the schools and colleges would be reopened under the SOPs.

He said that the government has asked for suggestions from the private school organizations and Madaris of all the provinces including Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Shafqat Mahmood indicated that a meeting has been planned with the Health Ministry on this matter and that any decision would be made based on the data with the NCOC.

Via the fund provided by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Ministry of Education is also in consultation with the nations who have reopened their educational institutions under many SOPs.

He quoted the Gallup Survey for maintaining that nearly 70 percent of the parents are ready to send their children back to school under SOPs. The minister also indicated at addressing a press conference for taking parents into complete confidence once the layout for the educational institutes is completed.

Previously the federal government took the decision that the educational institutes in the nation would not reopen before August 2020. But now the health experts are supporting the idea of reopening the schools phase-wise late in August, after the end of the peak of the coronavirus in Pakistan.
