Position Summary
The Wisconsin IceCube Particle Astrophysics Center is seeking candidates to support the technical development of a flagship next-generation experiment in neutrino astrophysics, IceCube-Gen2. Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess expertise in physics instrumentation design, with experience in embedded systems, data acquisition software and/or firmware, and communications strategies for distributed sensor arrays.
Qualifications
Degree and Area of Specialization
M.S. in physics, electrical/computer engineering, computer science, or related field, or BS with equivalent experience.
Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience
Required
- A minimum of 1-year experience with data acquisition software (software, firmware, and/or hardware)
- Additionally, a minimum of 1-year experience with low-level embedded system design and/or firmware development
- Also, an ability to work independently and creatively in an international scientific collaboration
Preferred
- Experience with distributed instrumentation/sensor networks, in particular for physics experimentation
- Also, with digital electronics design for data acquisition systems, with a focus on high reliability and/or redundancy
- Likewise, with hardware description languages such as Verilog or VHDL
- Also, with standard and/or custom communication protocols, data compression algorithms, etc.
